My parents have had the occasional wine during dinner. It wasn't until a trip along the Seneca Lake wine trail in the Finger Lakes in 2002 with my college roommates did I finally experience my first wine tasting. Stops at Red Newt Cellars, Atwater Estate Vineyards and finally sunning on the deck overlooking Seneca Lake at Leidenfrost Vineyards with a glass of Gewurztraminer, I learned that wine can be, well, fun.
And having a birthday in October, prime harvesting and wine making season, just made it all the better. Year after year of celebrating my birthday since that Finger Lakes experience has taken me, family and the closest of friends all over New Jersey, New York, Long Island and Connecticut. My palate evolved from the sweet white wines to smokey and oaky reds. This was an experience not to be enjoyed by myself, but to spread the enthusiasm to those closest to me.
And it didn't stop there. The passion to taste wines has brought me to the ice wine regions of Montreal and Mont Tremblant, the Pinot Noir region of the Willamette Valley in Oregon, the Cabernet Sauvignon region of Napa Valley, California and to home made recipes in Italy. It is just the beginning. I even found a life long partner who, himself, is a winemaker with a recipe passed down from his Grandfather.
What you'll find in this blogosphere of space, is a combination of my creative skills as a writer, photographer and avid traveler. But most importantly, it's the sharing of one thing. Wine.
